| Once you've passed your driving test, you can drive on your own although getting your own car will give you the independence you want. The cost of insurance can be huge for a new driver. The reason for this is that statistics show new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years of passing their test, than any other time in their driving career. It's not how young or how old you are - it's the amount of driving experience you have. Pass Plus is a training scheme for new drivers. This specially designed course by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry, helps you gain valuable driving experience safely, build on your existing skills and knowledge and reduce your risk of being in a road crash, save money on your car insurance premiums & boost your confidence. You can take it at any time within the first 12 months of passing your test. When you successfully complete Pass Plus you may qualify for a discount on your motor insurance policy from those insurers who support the scheme. There is NO TEST at the end of it - your driving will be continually assessed and you must successfully complete all the modules in the course to an 'achieved' or 'exceeded' standard. Pass Plus consists of six practical modules which cover: 1. Town Driving 2. All-weather driving 3. Driving out of town & rural roads 4. Night driving 5. Driving on dual carriageways 6.
